Site of the L.P.G.A. Annual Kraft Nabisco "Dinah Shore" Tournament Course. This course is just in PERFECT condition! The greens are in SPECTACULAR shape. Here is a quick review from inside the ropes. I Caddied the Wednesday PRO-AM event, saw first hand the perfect conditions the L.P.G.A. will be facing on their FIRST Major of the 2008 season. From the players perspective, this is "THEIR" FAVORITE event they'll play all year! IF you live anywhere near this event, it's a MUST do this time of the year...

Sunriver Golf Club - 03/27/2008 - addictedtugolf
Played our round on March 22nd 2008: Very nice views of the local Mountain Terrain. Not a Bad rate with Cart during HIGH season ($55.00), we'll play this course when the rates drop for the summer.
The greens are hard & firm which will have some speed to them. The BACK 9 fairways are in better shape (most of the holes are cart path only) THAN the FRONT 9 which are in TERRIBLE shape & the course is allowing for 90 degree rule...Did not make sense to us... Hole #13 (if I remember correctly) The Tee Boxes & the ENTIRE FAIRWAY has been recently re-sodded. THERE ARE NO YARDAGE MARKERS ON HOLE #13! Bring along your GPS to help gage your distances. PRACTICE RANGE: Not much grass at all to hit from, NO SAND BUNKER or Chipping area to practice either. The Clubhouse is very nice!

Very good condition for a city operated course. Most of the holes are flat but water will come into play on several holes. The BACK 9 is more challenging. Hole #15 PAR 5 480+ yards from the white tees plays ALL UPHILL! The GREEN is elevated by at least 50 feet from the fairway which is guarded by hidden bunkers just short of the green. The green itself is so undulating, make sure your approach shot lands on the flatest part of the green!

Site of the Champions Senior Tour event sponsored by Toshiba. The course is in fantastic shape for the Annual Champions Tour event. The greens are in excellent condition but a little on the bumpy side as far as the Professionals are concerned. The Signature 17th Hole PAR 3 can really sneak up & bite you! It is a TWO tiered green with water in front, bunkers help guard the green in front along the water. Here is a link to a photo of the green!
http://www.toshibaclassic.com/2007/hospitality/images/Toshiba%20Classic%202007.%230007.jpg
The course has plenty of dog leg holes to negotiate around. Holes #15 & #18 are BOTH PAR 5's that play side by side from TEE to GREEN.

The bunkers are very deep but very soft sand. You can easily lose strokes putting, the green speed is very fast! Some putts are just NOT makable from short distances no matter which line you decide to stroke the putt. :( Course is well marked, sprinkler heads are marked, but bring along your GPS unit or laser gun.

Desert Sands Golf Course - 01/10/2008 - addictedtugolf
Played on Dec. 28th 2007. Pace was very slow on the FRONT 9 of this Executive Course (PAR 65) There was a Members Club 9 hole Saturday Tourney PLUS a major delay due to FROST conditions on the greens which delayed ALL Tee times. On the BACK 9? We flew! Nobody was in front of us, we set the fast pace! The GREENS are shaped like an "egg", there are not many flat spots to putt from. The secret here is to make sure you leave your approach shots below the pin! Best to have an uphill putt VS. fast downhill sliding putts. It's the golf courses ONLY defense since is just about 4200 yards. It's the perfect course for beginners (high handicappers) The back 9 is much longer than the front 9 which is helped by the PAR 5 13th (449 yds). The putting practice green is very undulating, fast downhill putts, the EXACT conditions you'll find out on the course. There is a practice bunker & chipping area in addition to the "mats" only driving range. Look for photos to be uploaded.

Forty Niner Golf & Country Club - 01/09/2008 - addictedtugolf
Played on Dec. 22nd Early morning frost forced the course to be sloooooow play all day. I MUST give the STAFF (STARTER) Kudos much appreciated CREDIT for matching up as many players as possible! Every group out on the 1st tee was a FOURSOME. Luckily, there were some cancellations which helped out the situation. This course at one time was site of the Tucson Open during the 1960's. It is a tight narrow golf course but does have holes where you can let out the driver & not pay a price (rough). I highly recommend this layout which plays around some very large ranch properties, some beautiful scenery! Unfortunately, some time ago, the GOLF CART Barn had burned down & ALL the carts were lost in the fire! The replacement carts have seen better days, don't expect a GPS system either. *BRING your hand held GPS or laser guns* The sprinkler heads are marked for yardages most of the time. The greens seemed tricky to put on, they looked fast were actually very slow. PLEASE STAY OUT OF THE BUNKERS!!! The bunkers are so hard, it's like hitting out of concrete...NO fluffy lies here, BEST to chip out VS . taking actual sand. PRACTICE Range: NO DRIVERS-NO WOODS ALLOWED....ONLY iron shots to hit from actual grass. We'll be back the next time we visit Tucson, AZ

SCGA Golf Course - 12/16/2007 - addictedtugolf
Played on Tuesday Dec. 11th 2007: From this round, I have uploaded several pictures for viewing this layout. I have rated the GREENS an "EAGLE" because they are in EXCELLENT condition very smooth. SPEED? They are so freaking FAST!!! I consider myself an excellent putter (AVG 1.8 per 18 holes). On THIS round, I had (5) holes where I (3) putted! Very discouraging when you have several birdie putts that turn into BOGEY putts because of the speed of the greens. :( This course has been used as a local qualifier for the PGA Tour & 2nd stage of Q-School. At this time, the fairways are in terrible shape, much needed rain (Jan-April) will help. Very nice practice facility, NO MATS, Grass tee boxes. The putting green (speed) is exactly what you'll find out on the course. The course was designed by Robert Trent Jones which is a very playable but challenging layout. The sand in the bunkers are nice & soft, nothing too deep. I feel the most demanding hole is # 12, IF you try to carry the water hazard, there is a hidden bunker from the tee box waiting for you. The PAR 5's have wide fairways while the PAR 3's are average length. The golf carts are brand new BUT no GPS system. However, the sprinklers are well marked as well as the yardage posts (200,150,100). Best to bring your laser guided units. OVERALL: A very nice layout with some rain on the way it should help out with the fairway conditions.

Green River Golf Club - 12/05/2007 - addictedtugolf
There are (2) 18 Hole Layouts. "RIVERSIDE" & "ORANGE" courses. This review is on the RIVERSIDE Layout. Played on Wed. Dec. 5th 2007. I've seen BOTH layouts to date & PREFER the "RIVERSIDE" layout which is more scenic & plays away from the noisy 91 Freeway unlike the "Orange" course.
* Sign Up for ONLINE Specials * For when they are available.
THERE ARE NO YARDAGE MARKERS IN THE FAIRWAY - ALL YOU SEE ARE "BLUE" "WHITE" "RED" POLES ALONG THE ROUGH TO ESTIMATE YARDAGES ( BRING YOUR GPS SKYCADDIE TYPE or LASER FINDER SYSTEMS )
The fairways are in terrible shape, tight lies anywhere your ball lands in the fairway. The greens were so unpredictable, some were bumpy, some were slow which made us adjust our putting stroke to compensate. THEN all of sudden the speed became faster like you were putting on a smooth concrete surface! The sand bunkers are like concrete (very hard panned). MOST of the (White & Blue) tee boxes were closed for the day, which were being "hole punched" & new "seed" was being added, except for the PAR 3's, therefore ONLY the RED forward tees were available.
DRIVING RANGE: IRONS ONLY (NO WOODS OR DRIVERS) Your able to hit from a grass tee box but only iron shots! The driving range is no longer than 175 yards fence included! Did not see a bunker or chipping area. Very large practice putting green.
PRO SHOP / CLUBHOUSE: There are deals available on shoes, polos, sweaters etc...
Clubhouse overlooks BOTH courses. This is a municipal course NOT a Country club facility.
OVERALL: Best to play this course once there have been some rain events (Jan - April).

Monarch Beach Golf Links - 11/19/2007 - addictedtugolf
Played our round on Nov. 19th. What a beautiful layout! Located Next to the Ritz Carlton of Laguna Niguel. The ENTIRE Staff are Super friendly...
The fairways are in very good condition, still recovering from "over seeding", at this time, it is "cart path only" which will help with the process. The GREENS are in fantastic shape! The rough is not too deep, but very playable. The carts are equipped with PROLink GPS system to help you navigate the course. (Holes #2, #3, #5, #7, #14, #16 & #18) are very tricky IF you have not played this course. It is a beautiful clubhouse & facility, putting green. HOWEVER, the (1) negative is NO DRIVING RANGE, just ( 4 ) practice nets to warm up your swing. :( OVERALL, my score is not what counted today, it was to have a nice relaxing time playing golf on a course which held the Hyundai Team Matches 2002. The locker rooms have "named" lockers with the PRO players who attended the event (PGA, SR. PGA & LPGA).

Anaheim Hills Golf Course - 11/15/2007 - addictedtugolf
Played my round on Tuesday Nov. 15th 2007: Over the years, This is still my FAVORITE Municipal golf course to play! It has challenges (target golf), natural beauty playing in the hills, you MUST be able to hit BOTH a fade & draw off the tee. Pace of play still has not improved, did not help my group. There was a Junior golf tourney held. However, the greens are in the BEST condition I have ever seen. Fairway conditions are very good at this time. If you have not played this course, there is now a GPS system by ProLink golf on every cart which shows you the layout of each hole, yardages to the front & back of the green including images of the actual green. The added BONUS of knowing where the hidden golf carts are located, ALL on the screen since some of the greens are hidden from the fairway. The mobile beverage cart is always available to keep you well hydrated. Overall: You'll feel like your playing a semi-private club NOT a Municipal golf course.

Take advantage of their "ONLINE Internet Specials" to save on green fees.
Played our round on Wed 10/31/2007 as a threesome, in front of us was a five-some that played READY GOLF & FAST! We basically only waited on the PAR 3's. Completed our round in 4 hours on a WEDNESDAY. The greens are in PERFECT condition! Very smooth, no bumps, previous balls marks have been repaired! However, the greens do have many hidden breaks & undulations to make up for the course being only 6190 yards from the Blue Tees.
BONUS: The scorecard INCLUDED a yardage book & layout for each hole for FREE! If you have not played this layout before, it will come in handy BECAUSE some holes are very tricky to play. EX: HOLES #4, #5, #12, #15 & #17. YOU want to AIM for the 200, 150, 100 yard fairway markers off the TEE this way you'll have a better angle to reach the ELEVATED greens! The fairways on these holes is played in the actual RIVERBED (Flood Control Channel). When the rains come, the water flows in the RIVERBED & it becomes a 9 HOLE Course! The course finally DESIGNED the greens to be away from the (Flood Control Channel) after being washed away during the rainy season (Nov - March). There is a practice putting green which has markers #1- #18 to test your putting skills. Some of these holes resemble the actual greens on the golf course. Stay below the pin & you'll be ok. Try to avoid having a downhill breaking putt.

Eagle Crest Golf Club - 09/26/2007 - addictedtugolf
This is an UPDATED Review, played on Monday Jan. 14th 2008:
This course was in the line of FIRE during the month of October 2007. There are areas around the golf course which were burned, did NOT see any structures or homes lost in the fires. :)
To see a TOUR of the course, go to: http://www.EagleCrestGC.com/courseinfo/crsTour.php Very tight & narrow golf course located in Escondido (North of San Diego). This is a MUST play golf course, beautiful scenery, very playable but a challenge for the ladies too. There are certain holes which you need to negotiate properly otherwise you'll end up in the water hazards. Took a long time to play our round, a little over 5 hours for a Monday! The greens were punched 4 months ago & are in excellent condition, very smooth with some speed! The fairways are passable, more like hitting from low rough conditions, hard to tell where the fairway starts & the rough begins. The driving range length is very short, recommend hitting irons ONLY! Very nice LARGE practice putting green & chipping area. There are NO yardage books or GPS systems BUT ALL of the sprinklers are well marked with yardage distances. Brought along my Golf Logix to calculate yardages, very accurate. The sand bunkers are hard (Recent rains did not soften the texture), like hitting out of compacted DIRT. :( The course has recently marked many areas "ground under repair" which I attribute to the recent heavy rains. I expect this course to be in better condition in the next 2 months!

CasaBlanca Resort & Casino - 09/07/2007 - addictedtugolf
Recently played on Sept. 3rd 2007. Highly recommend purchasing the yardage book, ONLY $2.50!!! There is a very BASIC GPS system which ONLY calculates yardage to the PIN! The yardage book explains in detail HOW to play each hole especially if you have never played the layout. Conditions were great, soon they will be over seeding the course. The greens are normally fast but our recent round found them to be very slow & long (not cut as short as they would be). There are (5) sets of tees to choose from, very enjoyable & user friendly for all. The fairways are wide enough but watch out for those properly placed fairway bunkers that can eat away some strokes.
The practice facility has a VERY LARGE chipping / pitching area in addition to a very large practice green, along with (3) sand bunkers to choose from and driving range which is GRASS tees. Look for pictures from the course soon to be uploaded. This is a MUST play during your stay in the Mesquite area.

Empire Lakes Golf Course - 08/29/2007 - addictedtugolf
Site of the Nationwide Tour Event Oct. 4th - 7th 2007: Arnold Palmer designed Golf Course is in Excellent shape & still ONE month to go before the Nationwide Tour stops here in Rancho Cucamonga, CA. Two of the four Par 3's are really long & tough to play from the (Blue Tees 6628 total yards), #7 195 yards over water Rated #3 Handicap hole & #17 215 yards to carry the front bunkers, Rated #6 Handicap hole. Holes #9 & #18 are great, tough finishing holes which borders a very large water hazard! Proper tee shot placement is required. Overall: This is a MUST play golf course, especially over the next month while the course is being prepared for a PGA Tour approved venue. The only negative is PAYING $10.00 for a flimsy, BELOW average yardage book which is really made of THIN, CHEAP colored paper!!! Don't let any moisture come in contact otherwise it will begin to curl. :( I EXPECTED a much better "product".

Torrey Pines Golf Course - 08/22/2007 - addictedtugolf
(SOUTH COURSE) Site of the 2008 U.S. Open, site of the Buick Invitational. I was a Caddie @ a recent corporate event. The greens were in excellent shape! The bunkers provided a soft fluffy sand texture. At this time, the fairways may have some brown spots however, over seeding has begun & ground repairs are being made. The rough at this time is very playable. HOWEVER, in the coming months, the rough will be overgrown in preparation for the US OPEN! Beautiful Ocean views from hole #3, 4, 11, 12, 13, 14, 16 & 17. Keep in mind the PAR 3's #3, #11& #16 ALL play into the wind. Make sure to ADD almost a (2) club difference for compensation. Some of the holes have a crosswind to contend with while just a few are downwind from the tee box & fairway. HOLE #13 depending on where your tee shot lands, your 2nd shot from the fairway MUST BE CALCULATED CORRECTLY TO AVOID HAVING A SERIOUS DOWNSLOPE ON YOUR APPROACH SHOT TO THE GREEN. (Yardage marker from 145 - 200 is the location of the down sloped fairway). To avoid this, the perfect target yardage will be to land near the 120 yardage marker which plays to an uphill green. Holes #16, 17 & 18 are great finishing holes. Hole #18 PAR 5: Your approach shot to the green is very important. The water in front of the green from the front edge to the back edge of the hazard is 65 yards. Your approach shot "carry distance" must be at least 85 yards to reach the green otherwise the slope of the green will allow your ball to roll back into the water. Best to aim for the middle-back of the green taking extra yardage.
Overall: A very nice layout especially for a municipal golf course.

This is a MUST play golf course! Take advantage of the FREE E-mail SIGN UP from the golf club website www.HemetGolfClub.com to receive a weekly e-mail on DISCOUNT green fees. We played the 18 holes with a cart for just $25.00 each after 10AM on a Friday morning. (Bring a printed copy of the weekly e-mail) The greens were immaculate, the practice putting green is the very same pace (speeds) & breaks you'll face on the course. The fairways are lush throughout the golf course, areas that need repair are being attended to :) Beautiful views of the landscape (Photo's soon to be uploaded for viewing). MANY of the sprinkler heads are NOT marked for distances. The carts have an available GPS system by Pro-Link Golf which works ok. I personally prefer to walk off my own yardages. The PAR 3's are spectacular due to the landscape surrounding the greens. Some of the PAR 4 greens are hidden from the tee box, tee shot placement is very key! The driving range is GRASS only (no mats). There is an area to practice chipping from, did not see a practice bunker. Overall a very nice layout which is ONLY a few years old...

(Back nine holes will be featured on the BIG BREAK 8). This is a MUST play golf course designed by Arnold Palmer. Recent photo's have been uploaded. We played our round in 3 1/2 hours (Yes, temps were about 106-108 degrees very windy). The FRONT nine greens were in terrible shape, still recovering from recent holes punched. The BACK nine greens are in much better shape but not the greatest. Both courses now have BRAN NEW golf carts to get around in. Played our round on July 12th 2007. American Golf Course operated = "FIVESOMES ON EVERY HOLE". This course like ALL "AGC" courses in Southern California are notorious for sloooooooowww play! Why? Put as many players on the TEE boxes, fairways & greens, do NOT have Marshals regulate play! The fees have already been collected so why should they care....We booked our tee time for a discount @ www.SaveSomeGreen.com
OVERALL: This is a very tight layout, ALL golfers need to be aware of errant tee shots just about on every hole. The greens are in immaculate shape at this time, they L(o)(o)K slow but are a much faster pace then add some tricky breaks. (I had 28 total putts - AVG 1.55 per hole). The fairways are ok for this time of the year. There are (3) par 3's with below average length 129-140 yards BUT there are some long PAR 4's which range from 412 - 460 yds which makes up for the distances on the PAR 3's. HOLE 16 PAR 3 has a "false-front", make sure to take extra club for the uphill distance. I would like to play this course again but earlier in the day & NEVER on a weekend. :( It's just too crowded.

Black Gold Golf Club - 07/07/2007 - addictedtugolf
Played July 4th 2007 (Firecracker Tournament). The greens were recently "punched", air rated sometime during the last week of June which made for extremely bumpy greens to putt on. Friends of ours said it was odd the greens were "punched" right in the heat of the summer. Fairway conditions were sloppy due to overwatering! We had to take casual water relief & grounds under repair relief on several holes including PAR 3 greens. The rough in the fairway was on average between 3"-5". The sand bunkers in most cases was very soft sand BUT some had "mud" mainly due to excessive watering of the fairways. The practice putting greens are a distance from the driving range (Placed near the 1st Tee & 10th Tees) The driving range is under construction, not quite completed. At this time, you'll be UNABLE to use a "Tee" on the mats. Strictly Irons & Fairways woods (Hybrids). A shame you cannot warm up hitting your DRIVER! You'll need to in order to play this tight layout. When we played, MOST of the holes are "CART PATH ONLY", everything is roped off to keep carts from tearing up the course (excessive watering). Carts have GPS yardages BUT trust your own judgement, if the hole looks longer than what the GPS has registered, take an extra club & swing easier. A beautiful clubhouse overlooks the 18th hole. I would like to come back & play this course again BUT at twi-light rates. Full green fee rates makes it way overpriced! :(

The greens are very soft which leaves ball marks that players refuse to repair. Fairways on the (ONLY two PAR 4 holes) are in excellent condition. Sand bunkers have soft sand making it easier to play from vs hard pan bunkers.
Driving range has both MATS & GRASS to hit from. There are (2) practice putting greens. This is excellent course to practice your scoring irons, longest PAR 3 HOLE #9 is 155 yards. Hole #3 is 272 yards (LARGE bunker protects the green) & Hole #4 is 316 yards, Narrow fairway with O.B. along the entire right side of the hole (FLOOD Channel), bunkers on the left side with a 2 tier green. We recently played our round on May 24th 2007. Excellent practice facility! VERY large practice putting green, multiple practice sand bunkers, Large area to practice pitch & chip shots (40 yards). At this time, $10.00 to PRACTICE ALL DAY!
Hit as many golf balls you like, go have lunch, go back on the range/chip area ALL for $10.00 ALL DAY! Before you play your round, purchase a yardage book ONLY $2.00! What a deal especially if you have never played this challenging layout. We had dinner @ the Verde Grill (Outside Patio A+) overlooks Hole #18. The greens were very FAST! Seemed like they have been cut too low which does not leave much on the putting surface heading into the HOT summer months. Bring extra golf balls, you will be amazed how quickly you lose a ball just missing the fairway. :( Excellent layout, course let's you ease into your round which allows the #1 & #2 HANDICAP RATED holes to be played as Hole #5 on the front nine & Hole #14 on the back nine. There are (2) blind shot holes to look out for: Holes #3 & Holes #6, accurate TEE shots are a MUST! We recently played our round on Tuesday May 29th 2007. The temp's are starting to climb above 100 (Summer). The greens were very FAST! Above normal speed which had a lot to do with not much grass on the surfaces. :( Don't know IF they are being cut too low OR they never recovered from damage during the winter. The facility has NEW golf carts which is a plus! MOST of the sprinkler heads have yardage markers unlike in the past when you needed to rely on a yardage book. The back nine is much tougher than the front. I STILL feel you should not start your round with the #1 HANDICAP Golf hole (Formerly a PAR 5) now a very long uphill PAR 4 IMMEDIATELY followed by the #3 HANDICAP Golf Hole with ONLY 2 holes played...The views of the canyons & area make this a must play. :)

18 Hole EXECUTIVE golf course now called "California Oaks Golf Course". Yardage is only 4681 but regardless of being an EXECUTIVE course, it is challenging. I played from the Blue Tees which has a rating of 120 (above average for most regulation golf courses). Recently played on March 30th 2007. The greens were in very good condition which L(o)(o)ked to be fast and were not. A beautiful location to play golf, the layout has many holes with a challenge. The day we played the wind picked up on the back nine which made hole #10 par 3 189 yards play much longer to carry the creek in front of the green. There is plenty of water on the course to come back and bite you IF you don't play smart (Hole #17 has water where your tee shot will land). We took a cart because we NEVER had played this course but it could be walkable. Some tee boxes are a distance to travel from the previous green.
The PAR 3 holes are above average yardage (Blue Tees) 165, 163, 175, 189, 210 yards), the other PAR 3 holes are 120 & 95 yards surrounded by bunkers.
Overall a very enjoyable experience, a must play even though the yardage is for an EXECUTIVE course.

Excellent views! Bring a small disposable camera... Recently played our round on April 5th 2007. Recommend purchasing a yardage book from the pro shop, cost $3.00. There are "black & white" directional markers, NOT 150 yard markers for some of the blind tee shots (Hole #9, #11, #12, #13, #16). Some of the greens are still recovering from the winter (Hole #2, #4, #7, #9) The back nine greens are newer & seem to roll a little faster. The driving range consists of enclosed warm-up nets, we prefer practicing the day before our round at the Casablanca driving range.
Overall an excellent value compared to the other local courses. After playing Wolf Creek, we consider Falcon Ridge the "sister" course with similar views. The layout on the back nine is very interesting...Especially hole #15 which plays uphill the entire way with MANY levels to land your tee shot! The green has (3) undulating landing areas depending where the pin is located.
Hole #18 (404 Yards plays uphill) essentially has ( 3 ) fairways to play from your tee shot. If your tee shot lands on the fairway to the RIGHT, you'll have to carry the green side BUNKER with water in the BACK of the hole. Best to play the fairway to the LEFT which will give you a better angle & more green to land your ball.
