At first glance, Bill Anderson might appear a little off-kilter to some. A human canvas and 9-handicapper, Anderson isn’t your run-of-the-mill golf shirt and khakis kind of guy. He wants a little flash with his substance. And that’s why, five years ago, he started looking around for golf clothes that reflected his personal sense of style. And when he realized there was nothing original to be found, he started Tattoo Golf.
“Mainstream fashion these days includes torn jeans, tattoo-themed shirts — and skulls are plastered on everything from clothing to baby shoes,” says Anderson’s partner, Greg Shaw. “Why does the golf apparel industry have their collective heads stuck in the sand?”
Good question. We got ahold of a Tattoo Golf long-sleeve T-shirt and a comfortable black pullover hoodie earlier this year, and we’ve nearly worn both out in just a few months. The complete line includes everything from skull-branded caps and floppy hats to intricately monikered T-shirts and polos in a variety of colors. Plus, there’s cute styles for the ladies. In fact, we spotted Nikki DiSanto sportin’ TG gear during The Big Break reunion show on The Golf Channel.
“We’ve designed our line to meet the demand of golfers who are looking for something different, fun and edgy,” says Shaw, “and those who just are never going to wear traditional golf clothes.”
Golfers — and the media — are starting to take notice. Tattoo Golf has found its way into such publications as The Financial Times of London and the San Francisco Chronicle. And, of course, FG Magazine, where we’re introducing their entire line of products to our Morton Golf-powered FGSuperStore over the coming weeks.
