Slice of Lifestyle: College Fashion
Be True to Your CoolMove Up in Class and Comfort With This Fall's Most Versatile Golf & Fun Wear College life is all about time management. You’ve got your job, your friends, those crazy parties, the gym, dates, your 7 a.m. tee time, and, oh yeah, class. Sometimes it seems like you’re changing clothes three times a day to look appropriate for each activity on your schedule. Think about how much time you would save if you could just wear the same thing for an entire day. You may actually have time to eat lunch without the help of a drive-thru. So you might not be able to get away with wearing your gym clothes on a date, but you can go straight from playing nine holes in the morning to catching your afternoon chemistry class without stopping by the dorm for a change of attire. “All of our clothes are for when our consumer has to do double duty,” says CBUK style expert Joel Freet. “They have to look cool on the course, they have to look cool at the party, they have to look cool on a date, and they have to look cool everyday.” Sounds like he’s got the basics down. Not only does CBUK style look good, but it’s so easy to take care of. Basically you can wash it and wear it with very little shrinkage and the awesome dry release fabric the polos are made of dry quickly and are denim friendly. If CBUK doesn’t do it for you, Fairway and Greene has something for everybody in every situation. Fashion guru Teri Schliefer suggests the oxford mesh polos and pants because they don’t wrinkle easily; you can take it right out of the dryer and go. What? No ironing? Sweet. “The beauty of it is that it’s great fabric. It doesn’t shrink, the collars don’t curl, and a college kid could wear a Fairway and Greene shirt under a blazer on a job interview or take a date out to dinner.” Talk about multi-functional. Add a light knit vest — another F and G specialty that’s an FG favorite — and you’ll snazz up the combo just enough to carry the combo even further from the 18th green to whatever evening plans are in force. Also, check out their Pureformance line. It’s technical weather protection without going 100 percent polyester, great to remember when the skies get a little blustery heading toward winter. Fairway and Greene can help out the ladies, too, with their sleeveless tees, adorable Bermuda shorts and skirt-top ensembles. They’re conservative enough for school, but prevent the funky tan lines on the course when you head south for some desert practice, or to support the football team when it hits the road. It doesn’t get much easier, or more versatile, than that. “Knee shorts and capris are so perfect to easily wear from golf course to college because knee shorts are so in right now,” says LIJA designer Linda Hipp. Isn’t that the truth? Knee shorts are the greatest things to come to fall fashion since zip-up hoodies. With the right accessory, they are wearable on any walk of life. Don’t forget to grab a LIJA Avalon polo with your shorts, too. This adorable, ruffled blouse puts a feminine twist on a classic style. Linda at LIJA also offers some fun v-neck sweaters for a more collegiate look and some lovely striped cardigans with little elbow patches to protect your funny bone. As for outerwear, the Kissmou vest and jacket is unbeatable. “The vest is a really lightweight insulated vest and it’s a lot of fun with these big navy buttons. Then we’ve got the Kissmou Jacket which is a very sleek almost Prada-like jacket but it gives you warmth if you’re in a cooler climate,” Hipp said. I think the Kissmou vest could replace that old polyester thing you’ve had since high school. Going back to school is stressful; schedule yourself a massage. After your wardrobe adjustment, you’re going to have a little more free time on your hands. FG reader comments
