Host course for the 2009 Presidents Cup, the 2005 WGC-American Express Championship (won by Tiger Woods in a playoff with John Daly) and dozens of high-profile amateur events, Harding Park has been a staple of City by the Bay municipal golf since it opened in 1925. After a thorough spruce-up to bring it to modern championship standards, the course still follows Willie Watson's original routing alongside Lake Merced, and presents players with a tight, cypress-lined layout puts shot-making at a premium. More contouring on the fairways and green complexes gives it that U.S. Open-style feel, so don't be surprised if Harding gets on the USGA's radar screen to join neighboring Olympic Club as the second San Francisco Open venue.
