Ok, here’s the deal. I have long been trying to find the right shaft for me. I have played alot of different ones and thought I had found my match in a PX 5.0 HL. Lately, however, I have found that while I can kill it with these shafts (200 with a 5 iron), my dispersion pattern has gone haywire. I normally only play my 5 iron to 180. Yet sometimes I get 200 out of it. I just never know when that is gonna be. Not to mention that my grouping with those shafts is less than tight to put it mildly.

Well I have about 20 sets of irons (good ol’ eBay). I have been trying to stick with just my normal set. Well anyway, I have been hitting balls in my simulator (Thanks to AboutGolf) and have found that even though I have tried to mate with the PX 5.0 shafts, I can still get about the same yardage with X100’s with a much tighter spread.

Now my question to everyone is this: Should I stick with the clubs I have been playing with or try the X100 clubs? I lose about 5 yards for average shots using the X100 but can’t muster up the monster shot on occassion like with the PX’s.

I think the consistency in distance and dispersion is much more important to score well. Being able to crank a 5 iron 200 feels good, but scoring is more important and consistency will deliver results. Getting the right shaft these days is more important than the clubhead in my opinion. A 180 5 iron is plenty long to tackle most courses these days.

I agree with USGOLFSTICKS, accuracy is the key with irons. However going from PX 5.0 to X100’s is a big jump in flexes. The X100 is equivalent to a rifle 7.0. I recommend that you get the assistance of a clubfitter in your area.

I went out and hit the range with the X100’s. I lost about 5-7 yards but they were pretty straight. Only problem was that I felt like I was really swinging the club. I had my normal clubs later on in the day and played…shot 81. I hit the ball well but did get a bit more movement. I just didn’t have to swing as hard. I’m just so undecided. Why do I play golf again? LOL!!

Consistency, consistency…The more you develop this the more fun you will have. I agree with Mr. USGOLFSTICKS. I mean as long as the golf ball leaves the club face at its center without question you’ll like them.

All the best.
